A Peblar charger must be installed by a qualified installer according to local regulations. This article summarises the main requirements. The complete instructions are in the installation manual on the Peblar downloads page.
Location
Choose a spot where the charging cable reaches the charging port of the car without strain. Preferably avoid direct sunlight. Keep at least 300 mm of free space around the charger and mount the mounting ring at a height of 1400 mm. The connector of a fixed cable should hang 0.5 to 1.5 m above the ground when stored. The wall must be flat, able to bear the load and free of water or gas pipes and electrical wiring. The location must comply with local accessibility regulations.
Protection in the fuse box
An upstream circuit breaker (MCB) and a residual current device (RCD) are required. The MCB (characteristic B or C) must be rated for the local supply and the required charging current, with a maximum of 32 A. The RCD must be type A (30 mA) or type B (30 mA), depending on local regulations. Which exact components you need depends on local installation standards.
Phases and charging power
On a single phase connection the charger delivers up to 7.4 kW (32 A). On three phases it delivers up to 22 kW (3x32 A). The Peblar Home is limited to 16 A per phase, so a maximum of 11 kW. The Peblar Home Plus and Peblar Business support 32 A per phase, so a maximum of 22 kW.
Your car sets the limit
The onboard charger of the car determines how much power it accepts. A car with an 11 kW onboard charger will not charge faster on a 22 kW charger. Plug-in hybrids usually charge on one phase, at 3.7 kW or 7.4 kW. The charging speed is always set by the weakest link: the car, the grid connection or the charger.
Tools
You need a power drill with an 8 mm bit, a spirit level, cable and wire strippers, a cable cutter, an ethernet crimping tool, Torx screwdrivers T10, T20 and T30, an adjustable wrench and a pencil.
